Of all the branches of the military to enlist in during times of war, to me, the Navy is most desirable. Of course, you won't find me at a recruiting office any time soon (unless to visit my hunk of a husband). But the Navy seems like a pretty safe bet for young men and women looking for some direction and stability. Aside from the attack on the U.S.S. Cole in 2000 and a suicide bombing that killed most of a search & seizure squad boat (seats roughly 8 men) about a year ago, you don't hear too much about sailors being killed in combat. Living in Virginia, I hear about sailors dying all the time...those are usually drunk driving accidents. I don't mean to add relevance to the term "drunken sailor." The sailor is just as often the victim as he/she is the offender. The Navy also has it's travel appeal. Rus has been to 21 countries since he enlisted 8 years ago. A lot of them are countries I would like to see myself someday.

I don't mean to "recruit" any of my readers, but if the Navy is for you...by all means.

I got started on this tangent because of something Rus said this afternoon while he was home for lunch:

"How is it that radical Muslims can get people to fly into buildings and kill themselves and we can't get people to sign up for a couple years to defend our country?"
