It's Thanksgiving and I'm eating cheese dip. Don't fret, though, the turkey's in the oven. There's a lady that works at the lab (she wears her clothes backwards) and she makes this awesome cheese dip. It's white and cheesy and it has jalapenos and onions in it (just call me Dragon Breath). Anyway, I think she's one of those weirdos that doesn't share recipes...because my mom doesn't have it yet...and I KNOW she's asked for it...

I took a small break, but it's back this week: PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.47: 1. Have you ever made a wish that came true? A dream is a wish your heart makes...Mia is healthy and I can't imagine any better dream that that. 2. How about any wishes that you are happy never came true? Remember when I wanted to marry that one guy? THANK THE GOOD LORD THAT NEVER HAPPENED. 3. Do you like who you are? Are you the person you hoped you would become? Are you kidding? I love myself. I'm still a work in progress, though. Once I have a career going...(with a college degree or two) I'll be satisfied. 4. I recently found some job applications that I never turned in. Back in 1986 I intended to apply at "County Seat" and "Chess King" but got an offer from Penny's (where I worked all through college). It was a good thing, since only one of the three is still around. Have you ever applied for positions, or had any interviews, where you later are glad you never got the job? Nope. 5. While on the topic of career opportunities, what was your very first "real" job? What job was the most embarrassing? I worked at Finast (grocery) for a year when I was 15. That was pretty embarassing, but at 15 you can't really get any other job... 6. Speaking of news, have you had your 15 minutes of fame yet? Such as being in the newspaper, on television, linked on a high-profile site or otherwise caught in the spotlight of the media? Hooters Girls are known worldwide...but I wasn't famous MYSELF. 7. In the USA, many of us will celebrate Thanksgiving this week. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving (or something like it)? Do you enjoy getting together will your extended family for these types of celebrations? I love Thanksgiving. TURKEY. BONUS: Where is the tenderness? If it was up your ass, you'd know. HA! Today is a brand new day. And I have good news for my friends and family in Ohio. My vacation for Christmas was approved. I will be in Ohio from December 22-December 29!! More details later.

I look at Mia and I smile. I look in the mirror and I smile. But I sit and I think and I stop smiling. It's absolutely true that the only sure thing in life is family. I imagine my life 5, 10, 15 years from now (I do this fairly often) and the only thing that is constant in my visions is the love I have for my daughter. I think about things we'll be doing, vacations we'll be going on, and oddly enough, I never imagine anyone there with us.

My previous posts may make this one seem a little melodramatic, but these are the things I think about.

[edit] -- It's not that I think I won't be WITH someone, I guess that just means that if I can't imagine anyone else being there, it's not going to be someone I already know.


OK. I called. We talked for a second. He's watching a football game and I'm on the way to Grandma and Grandpa's for dinner. So he will be calling me back later this evening to make plans to get together. Thanks for the advice.


If-then Hypotheticals. Hypothetically speaking :) let's say someone gives you his number and tells you to call him. You hang on to it for a couple days then give him a call when you're not busy feeding your baby or changing her diaper. You leave a message on his VM and he calls back later the same day...when you're NOT home. So you wait a day or so, call back...leave another VM, and then 4 days go by and he hasn't called. Then you talk to a friend of yours who he had a conversation with *about you* and she wants to know "what you did to this poor guy that he still has it bad for you after a year?" The fact is that you did absolutely nothing...he painted your fingernails once? Anyway, you were the last one to call him, it's been a few days...What do you do? Do you call him? He might have lost your number... Obviously you don't ask him why he hasn't called when you eventually DO talk to him... Do you just call him and ask him if he wants to go out for drinks or what?

I hate driving to work thinking "Wow! Full moon out this morning." Full MOON. This MORNING. D'oh! Driving to work yesterday, I realized that in the 3+ years I've lived in Virginia Beach, I've never seen the HOV gates go up or down. I wonder what time they do that....

Blame it on my nightly 6 hours of sleep or blame it on my 18 hours of daylight, you pick, because I can't focus. Mia is sounds asleep...it's 9:35pm. That's my girl. I lack her motivation to not be tired. The girl and I had an eventful evening though. We played with her little fishy thing (I played, she watched and cooed) and we danced (I danced, she clung on for dear life)...but seriously, folks :) we had a good time. Another 18 hours gone by and all I learned is that Mia is not a fan of Christina Aguilera...but she does enjoy Justin Timberlake and she also likes The Foundations. As long as I stay away from rap and most country music, we'll be okay...and she'll be normal.

Mia Update: Mia had her 2 month check up today. She got FOUR shots. It was the most awful experience ever. I had to hold her hands while the nurse administered the vaccines...every time Mia got stuck she looked up at me like "MOM! Why aren't you stopping this insanity?" I felt so bad. She's sleeping now...Dr. Jones said she should sleep for most of the day. Anyway, she weighs 12lbs.3oz. and is 22.5 inches long. She smiles a lot more often now, and she even coos once in awhile...unfortunately, I won't be getting much of that today. D'oh.

Bachelor Thoughts: I don't know how many people reading my site also watch the Bachelor on ABC Wednesdays at 9, but I'm addicted. And this is kind of late, but I've been trying to decide who he's going to pick next week and really with what I've heard, it could go either way. Here are some things to think about: An online betting site had been accepting bets on Brooke vs. Helene, and shut down after 60% of the votes received came from The Bachelor's hometown and were placed on Helene. On the OTHER hand, on that special episode this week, when Aaron was talking about those last 5 minutes he got with each of the girls in the deliberation room, he said in reference to Helene "She was more open than she had been before..." and in reference to Brooke, Aaron said "She was very open as she always is...." Maybe I'm reading too much into that, but I believe that at the time that show had been taped, The Bachelor was already finished filming, and in the statement he made about Brooke, he referred to her in the present tense. Soooooo...if you watch the show, leave a comment!! I know Desiree has been following it on her site...she even has a poll...go over there and check out what she has to say, too.

Have you ever noticed that EVERY time you go out looking horrible you run into someone you know? And 90% of those encounters are with someone you never want to see when you're less than amazing. Funny...but not so much. That happened to me, for the SECOND time this month, last night. I had to run up to Target to get some Vaseline, some baking soda, and a tub stopper. I was not 20 feet inside the store before I spotted him walking towards me. Him who? Him Jason. He's a guy I was sort of talking to this time last year...Halloweenish. Anyway, whatever talking we did then didn't lead to anything because he had 2 jobs with insane hours and could never hang out...and I was still a little "Shawn crazy." ANYWAY. Surprisingly, he wasn't totally repulsed by my Volcom sweatshirt and my "hair a la Pebbles Flintstone" and he gave me his phone number so I could "give [him] a call sometime." Maybe I will...don't know.

Target was just an interesting experience overall. After I was informed by TWO Target employees that they did not carry Arm & Hammer baking soda and were fresh out of tub stoppers, I started to look at the DVDs...there was NO WAY I was going to buy a $1.64 tub of Vaseline with a VISA. Before I decided on "Shallow Hal" I had to make sure I hadn't written any checks and forgotten about them before they hit the bank for clearance. Anyway, as I was dropping my wallet into Mia's diaper bag (which tends to double as a purse) Kelly Osbourne walked by wearing a Target uniform. She obviously thought I had put something other than my wallet in my bag because she whipped around and asked me if I needed "any help finding anything" in a tone of voice that, in retrospect, was dripping with annoyance and accusation. I ignorantly replied "Oh, no thanks," because I didn't realize why she was being so "helpful." After I finally caught on (about 3 seconds later) I walked over to her and said something to the effect of "I know you're just doing your job, but I just realized why you asked me if I needed help, and what I dropped in my purse was my wallet...not merchandise." I smiled to let her know I wasn't going to hold it against her (like she would have lost sleep over it). She laughed and said "Oh, that's okay. Thanks." I don't think she believed me anyway. She was laughing at me, not with me. Target's Employee of the Month had me followed to the register and out the door. Whatever. She's a good employee and I love Target...so even though I'll probably get followed in her department, I'll continue to go to Target and I'll continue to pay for my merchandise at the check-out.

Taking my lunch break to do PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.45: 1. Although I was told before hand by my mother, my Grandfather finally told me he has cancer and it was speculated he has about 12 months to live. Has someone you know ever told you they had a terminal illness? What was it like for you when you found out. How did that change your relationship with them? I've known people that have had terminal illnesses, but they've never told me personally. I always hear it from my parents...things don't really change in the relationship...time just becomes more valuable. 2. The concept of having 12 months comes as somewhat of a shock. Often those estimates are wrong and a person lives much longer. But still, it makes me think. If you found out you had 12 months to live, what would you do with that time? How would it change the way you live? Or would it? I would spend all my time with Mia, and I would make sure everything was set-up to make sure she was taken care of after my untimely departure. 3. My Grandfather has decided to undergo chemotherapy. He was told it would not cure him, but it could prolong his life, however his quality of life could diminish. Having watched my father go through all that to no avail, I am not so sure I would choose that option. If you were (or are) in a situation where chemotherapy might cure you, or might not, would endure the usual side effects and discomfort? I don't think I would. It would be one thing to be in agony myself...but I wouldn't want to put everyone else through my pain if it wasn't going to cure me. 4. How is your health? How are you doing? I need to start exercising again...just need that jogging stroller. And I think I might be getting a cold or something. Other than that, no complaints from me. 5. Speaking of health, I was in a Health Food Store Saturday and learned about something called "Ear Candling." It involves having a helper insert a cone-shaped candle in your ear, lighting it and having the reverse pressure suck the wax out of your ear. Apparently it is very popular. Do you use, or have you ever tried, any alternative heath remedies or procedures? How did that work out? Anything out there we should try (or avoid)? Ummm...no. And I eat red meat. Lots of it. 6. Which reminds me, this week at work they are giving flu shots for $15. I hate getting shots, so getting one by choice, and paying for it, is tough for me. How do you feel about Flu shots. Do they give them where you live? Are you going to get one or take your chances? I hardly ever get the flu. And I don't want to get any shots I don't really need while I'm still breastfeeding. 7. I'd like to see either "Spirited Away" or "Bowling for Columbine" before they vanish from the multiplex at the mall. But I will probably have to go see it alone (which I hate). Do you like to go to see flicks at the movie theater alone? Or would you rather have company? Seen any good (or bad) movies lately? Company is always good...especially at scary movies like The Ring!! Two thumbs up, by the way. BONUS: Don't you want somebody to love? I love lots of people.

Mia and I went back to the clinic today so I could get the results from my TB test (part of the physical for work), and what do you know? I am tuberculosis-free. That's great 'cause I was really scared there for a second! Yeah, right.

Anyway, Mia and I ran into my mom at Target when we went up for diapers and other necessary baby things, and Mom bought Mia this. It's a little old for her, but we have a lot more fun with our tummy time!!

Oy vey. I've got questions to answer. Ok. BabyKeeper. Things went surprisingly well. When I called to check up on Mia, she was awake and she sounded pretty content. When I got to Sheila's house after work, I was impressed with the way she set things up to safeguard Mia from J.R. J.R. is a 5,000lb Rottweiler that likes to lick babies. And to answer a question left in the guestbook...the shotbox doesn't count because the messages are eventually bumped from the screen, and you might has well never have been at my site because how the hell would I know?

It's 5:49am. When I get home from work, Mia and I are going to take a 18 hour nap. This 5am stuff is ROUGH. BUT...gotta make the money so I can buy my girl this.

After 2 hours in the clinic and 3 cans of Lipton's Brisk Iced Tea...I filled the cup and completed my physical. Isn't work FUN!?

I'm sort of nervous for tomorrow. Mia is headed to the BabyKeeper's for the day. BK is coming to get her in the morning...she says. When I talked to her this week she said she'd drop Mia off in the afternoon, but I insisted that I come get her after I get off work. I never used to be an assertive person. But when it comes to my girl...I'm in charge. And since I'm a mom now (crazy), I can say things like "Because I said so, that's why."

I've been working...and spending time with my beautiful daughter...and filling out paperwork for "new hires", and paperwork for medical insurance, and paperwork for dental coverage...

I get up at 05:00 so I can have 45 precious moments with Mia, and I leave the house at 06:30 and finally get to hold my girl again around 16:00. LONG DAY!

Thanks to Israel (that would be Kamakawiwo`ole, not the Palestinian enemy), she is sleeping. And I think I'm going to go do the same thing.

PromoGuy's Monday Mission 2.44: 1. Have you ever had to appear in court? What was the reason? How did it turn out? Yes. Some Italian girl (that looks absolutely nothing like me) used my driver's license (in broad daylight) and was actually issued a ticket (by some blind cop), so I had to go to court to get the charges dismissed. And they were :) 2. Ever been accused of something you never did? Were you able to convince anyone? Um. Usually I'm accused of stuff I actually DO, and I'm able to convince people I didn't :) 3. When it comes to crime and punishment, do you agree with the saying "An eye for an eye?" Um. I don't know. People are wrongfully convicted all the time, so I don't know how I feel about that. I am all about some different kinds of punishment. Singapore has the right idea with that whole caning thing. 4. Are you a judgemental person? Do you ever make up your mind about a person before you know them? When was the last time that happened? Or if not, how do you keep from being judgemental? I'm sure I've done it, and probably recently. But I can't recall a specific incident. 5. When I was in 6th grade I lit a match in class accidentally and was given the choice of having my folks called or getting 10 "swats." I took swats and damn, that wooden paddle with the holes drilled in it hurt like hell (not to mention the horible whistling sound it made before impact). I don't think they allow "swats" anymore. Ever get "swats" at school? How do you feel about children being spanked in school. Is it best that they don't do that anymore? How about parents spanking kids? Good or bad? I never got swatted at school...I got spanked at home once in awhile...not very often. I think other forms of punishment are just as effective as long as parents see the punshments through. For example, if you threaten to leave a place because your child is acting up, you better be prepared to actually leave. 6. What is your favorite "Chick Flick?" SHAG, baby!! 7. Describe the last situation you were in that can best be summed up by the phrase "seemed like a good idea at the time?" Um. I don't know. Maybe parking at Waterside expecting to get cut early and then ending up paying $14.00 in parking. D'oh! BONUS: Who will bury us when we die? Hopefully our children.

I got a really weird e-mail this afternoon. There was no sender listed. I don't make a habit of sending myself e-mails, so I'm not sure how it got in my box. There was no subject matter, and all it said in the e-mail was "QUIT." I'm not exactly sure if it came from someone or if Outlook messed up or something, but if anyone else has gotten one or if anything knows anything about this...try again, I guess.

Can my neighbors GET anymore more annoying? WeirdGirl came back a couple days ago to use the phone. She got denied. She'll have to learn how to punch the phone away from her older, less annoying sister. And I think it would be really lovely if they figured out how to turn off their car alarm before they park it in front of our driveway to mess around under the hood. The alarm has now gone off 9 times in as many minutes. I'm already AWAKE, but Mia isn't.

Tonight I was riding in a car with a boy...ETD...sometime tomorrow, no chance of a delay. I thought I would be cool, but I also didn't think I would hear 3 Pearl Jam songs in the span of 15 minutes. I can't sum up all my feelings and stuff very well right now, but here's a list of 5 things I'd never done/never known until tonight:

- I never knew that loving someone sometimes really DOES mean letting them go.
- I never knew that tends to work both ways.
- I never saw a boy become a man right in front of me.
- I never cried without knowing whether I had tears of joy or tears of pain streaming down my face.
- I never knew that a smile from my baby could bandage a broken heart so well.
