Quest Diagnostics bought Shared Laboratory Services' client list...the pens scrawled across the paper and the money crossed the wires this afternoon. Big deal, right? It IS a big deal. The core lab (where my mom works) should be dissolved by March 15th...the Ides of March (no irony there...yeah, right). I should still be employed there for a good 6-8 months. After that...I don't know. Obviously school still...and maybe Hooters. I might have to drop the (Former) and become the latter.

This Atkins diet has been killing me. I'm coming up on the end of my "induction phase" (20g of carbs or less each day). I counted how many grams of carbs I was used to eating and the number was somewhere around 180g a day. I was on a strict diet of pasta and lemonade...now I drink water and diet soda and SOY pasta. Soy pasta and soy crackers...believe it or not, pretty tasty. Stay away from the Keto-Brownies though. Blech.

But I've always felt like I "should" enjoy it, that I was deficient in some way because I never get excited about things like the Super Bowl (except for the commercials). Are there any occasions when you feel like you are missing out on something that everyone else seems to enjoy? Nope. 6. A few of the phrases that get under my skin are "take it to the next level" (which was used when I was told why I was being replaced at Fox by someone who could do that) and "you just don't get it" (always popular in relationship fights). What phrases "push your buttons" and why? I can't really think of one off the top of my head. People usually annoy me, not so much the words they use. 7. Do you believe in life after death? What do you believe happens when our time is up?Who knows? Heaven would be nice, but I'm so tired lately, I'd take just a long nap in the dirt, too. BONUS: Everybody's talking all this stuff about me why don't they just let me live? Where's the fun in that?

Mia's Daddy is coming to visit today...I haven't told her, just in case plans change. I learned to keep that info a secret pretty early, didn't I?? It's unfortunate. But TODAY he WILL be here and hopefully he will assemble her tricycle. I want it to be ready for her as soon as she can ride it...in about 2 and a half years :) She's going to have her picture taken on that sucker :) by THE PICTURE PEOPLE. Woohoo!

The Bachelorette is on tonight. 90 minutes of waiting and waiting. There are some rumors flying around that Charlie and Trista were spotted together at a bridal show...AND that Trista already has a bun in the oven! That would be cool if it were true...but who knows, someone could have leaked some lies to ensure a surprise (no rhyme intended). But I'd put a dollar on Charlie :)

Anyway, at the end of tonight's airing, Trista will go from 8 to 4!! Here are my predictions, from the top left: Charlie, Bob, Rob and Ryan.

On the Mike and Bob show this afternoon on 96X FM, Mike and Bob were asking listeners to call in and speak their mind on the Roanoke Sparkle controversy. For those of you that don't know, Roanoke Sparkle is a NBA prep team. Anyway, the basketball organization is making an official "gay day" to "honor" homosexuals. I called in. It's not verbatim, but it's close:

What's up baby? --- Yeah, they DID call me baby.
The whole thing is gay...literally. If we [meaning heterosexuals] had a "heterosexual day" wouldn't gays be the first to blow the rainbow colored discrimination whistle? It's just like the premise of BET. If we actually called networks like NBC White Entertainment Television, wouldn't that be more racist than just not featuring shows that have black people?
We do have white entertainment television, that's what NBC is for!! When was the last time you saw a brother on NBC.

Rain and slush in Virginia Beach (where I live). 2-4 inches in Chesapeake (where the lab is). That was the extent of the big bad snowstorm on the Southside of Hampton Roads. But hey, I'll take a PAID snow day ANY time they want to give it to me. I'm sure Mia appreciates it as well.

According to WAVY TV News Channel 10 "The National Weather Service has placed western and northern areas of Hampton Roads under a winter storm warning for Thursday evening through Friday afternoon." The citizens of Hampton Roads are scurrying around buying up canned corn and bottled water. As a Clevelander I watch the crazed people of my area and scoff. I sound like a grandma..."In my day, we didn't get a day off school unless it was LOWER than 20 below zero." I've dug my car out of a snow bank more than a few times and believe how surprised I was yesterday when there were 31 PENDING accidents that kept me from being to work on time.

With the military making up such a large portion of our population, you would think that more military personnel and military spouses would be from the North where the snow is abundant and the salt trucks are plentiful. No such luck. It took 1 hour for me to make a 18 minute drive yesterday morning, and if the "storm" is more than 3 inches...the lab will be closed and I'll have a free day to spend with Mia.

Before I leave work...here is PromoGuy's Monday Mission 3.2. 1. Have you ever bought something you were so excited about and found out later that it didn't work? Were you able to return it? How did it go? I don't think so. 2. I have a Palm (Pilot) for my date book and such, but have been thinking of jumping to the PocketPC world at some point. Do you have a PDA (personal digital assistant)? What kind, and how did you decide? What do you like about it? If you don't own one, do you want one or do you do better without such gadgets? I have a cell phone...I don't need a PDA. 3. What illness do you wind up catching more than any other? Colds and ear infections. Mia has an ear infection right now, hopefully she won't have as many as I had when I was little. 4. Do you like going to see the Doctor (any type)? I don't know of anyone that actually LIKES going, but I don't care if I have to go. 5. How about the Dentist? Do you like going? Do you go in every 6 months for a check-up? Every 6 months, yessirree!! 6. Are you a "Dog Person" or a "Cat Person?" Do you think a person's choice tells you something about their personality? I prefer dogs and I like SOME cats...like Cindy's and two of my sister's. I don't think it has anything to do with personality. 7. I've mentioned before how me and a buddy of mine have just let our friendship lapse. There was no disagreement, but we've hit that point where we have nothing in common anymore. My life has progressed and he is still living in 1992. Have you ever had a friendship that just seems to have run its course? Where there is just nothing there anymore? What finally happened? We gradually lost touch. That's the best way to do it. If there's a disagreement, you're more likely to reconcile. BONUS: Do you want to see me beggin' baby? Can't you give me just one more day? So GO! Walk out the door, just turn around now, you're not welcome anymore.

I prefer Drama-Princess... From the outside, my life appears rather uneventful...staying at home every weeknight with my little one and preferring to stay in at friends' houses on weekend nights...again, with the little one. Aside from Mia's coos and gurgles and new experiences, my life is filled with relationships with friends, family, and believe it or not, the occasional flirt with [insert an emotion here (not love)].

The reason for writing this? Not to give a glimpse into my life, but to wonder, with my audience, why some people resist emotional involvement when their lives seem to be in such great need of something...some sort of drama, some sort of intrigue. It's those people and their resistance that intrigue me and stir my emotions.

Crazy stuff.

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride... *sob, sob* FINE BY ME!! I tried on my bridesmaid's dress that I will be wearing in Meghan's wedding. For some reason I remember my waist being a little lower than it is now. Oh right....I had a baby! I guess I'll have to call David's Bridal tomorrow and make an appointment to get it altered.

Meghan: You know I'm a little slow to get motivated...but when it's go-time, who's the first on the starting line?

Mia sleeps with me at night about 95% of the time. Everyone always warns, "Don't do that! She'll never sleep on her own." Really?

I just gave her a bottle, she burped, I changed her, and she got cranky. She was tired. I popped the pacifier in her mouth and she was peaceful. STILL AWAKE, I put her in her playpen downstairs (where I am) so she could fall asleep on her own and BY HERSELF. She's got the Baby Genius CD in the background and she's got her dreamworld in the foreground. Could I BE more proud of my sleeping beauty?

I'm not expecting a response, but I wrote this letter to The View today:

Dear Ladies,

I love your show and when I stay home from work, I'm sure to tune in. Unfortunately, I missed the 1/8/03 episode, but my mom told me that you were talking about a pregnant Hooter girl that had been fired. Mom only caught the tail end of the story, and couldn't tell me if you mentioned why she was fired, but I'm happy to report that I worked at Hooters until I was 8.5 months pregnant. The girls and the managers were all VERY supportive and encouraging...in fact, my baby shower was thrown by some of the girls! Hooters is one of the best employers I've ever had the pleasure to work for and they made my job easy and made my future as a single mom a lot more optimistic.

Shawn's mom can't watch Mia during the day because her car needs a new starter or something. Having her watch Mia every Thursday is great so my mom gets a break during the week, but I'm pretty pumped to be keeping the girl at home tomorrow. I'm taking Mia over to Erin and Lesley's in the evening, and now she won't have to go smelling like wood chips :)

Right boot, wrong girl. I'm officially back on the scene...the dating scene, that is. In an effort to nudge me in the right direction, or really any direction, my girl Summertime introduced me to one of her boyfriend's friends. Before meeting him, he had heard that I am "cute, funny, and very....lively." I heard he is "cute and very sweet." Neither decription was far off...but it wasn't a match. Topping the list of undesirables was the complete lack of chemistry. In a dead heat with that one was his habitual winking. It wasn't a tic, each one (and there were MANY) was undeniably deliberate. If I said something funny (that happens a lot), or something funny was said by someone else, anytime there was laughter and we made eye contact, really, he winked at me. It made me feel dirty...like we had a secret or something. I don't know. He wasn't a bad dresser though...well from the ankles up, I guess. He wore a Hurley shirt :) jeans and these boots that I still don't quite understand. They were black leather boots that had large silver rings to run the laces through. I still can't decide whether they were meant to be goth or Harley style...Harley, Hurley...maybe there was some confusion...don't know.

Is there anything in 2002 (decisions, relationships, purchases, etc.) that, looking back, you would have done differently? I wouldn't have trusted certain people as much as I should have. 7. Ugh. The Browns lost today. How disappointing. It was a good game though...I think. I don't normally watch football, so I don't know what a REAL fan would consider a "good game." Better game for the Steelers, but whatever. I'm just proud the Brownies made it to the playoffs.

I haven't posted in awhile. There's not a whole lot going on. Although I did establish some sort of friendship type thing with Erin. If you think the name sounds familiar and you're also thinking, 'But isn't that...?' It is. She lives with Shawn's cousin and Shawn's cousin apparently wants to be a part of Mia's life, also. Anyway, Erin....I get side tracked so easily. Since she lives with Lesley, I thought it might be a good idea to make nice. Thankfully, she was also down with the "forgive and forget like 2 mature adults" game. It's funny because our friends had always told us that had it not been for Shawn lodged between us and oddly against us, we would have been friends a long time ago. I talked to her last night for awhile and I'm inclined to believe our friends were right.
