Dinner for 5.

Rus and I are having dinner guests this evening. He's coming over at 6:30 to start cooking and our new "couple" friends are coming over around 8. We're doing it at my (mom's) house because it's way easier to keep track of Mia at home. She has all of her toys and her Baby Einstein DVD library right here.

In the meantime, I've been cleaning my arse off. I took down the Christmas tree (yes, the faux eyesore was still up), I've cleaned and vaccuumed the living room, now it's on to the kitchen and the playroom. Then I'll tackle the downstairs bathroom.

This is a pretty sorry excuse for a post. Maybe something post-worthy will happen tonight.

Snow.

The first winter I lived down here, it snowed a half inch and schools were cancelled across Hampton Roads. Today, while I was at work it snowed about 2.5 inches. Tomorrow there's an "hour delay." Um no. I've seen these Virginians "drive" in the snow. I'll be shutting myself indoors.

    Plus One.

    It's apparently a pretty sensitive subject. Sex and the City covered it, and now I'm involved in my own "Plus One" situation.

    I'm pretty sure everyone knows and understands that with Mia and the pretty big deal it is for me to travel, I don't come to Ohio for just ONE reason. It's Christmas with Dad's family and seeing friends. It's a family wedding and seeing friends. In July, it's a friend's wedding and seeing family. I'm taking 2 days from school (unexcused, because at a technical college there is no such thing as an excused absence, doctor's note or not), and either driving 1200 miles (round trip) with a toddler or I'm flying those same 1200 miles (slightly different course, I suppose) WITH a toddler for $314.

    After Meghan's wedding and her R.S.V.P. ordeals, I thought I was doing my friend a favor by calling and seeing what her intentions were as far as my "Plus One," or in this case, my "Not Plus One." Is that a problem? she asks. No. No problem. Rus had expressed his desire to go to Ohio with me to meet my family if he's on land (as opposed to out to sea). So, if the me "Plus One" isn't going to work for the bride's arrangements, that's fine. I UNDERSTAND. I know how R.S.V.P.s work. I wouldn't just add a name on. I wouldn't just show up with a "Plus One" that wasn't invited. Instead, I would attend the wedding, and forgo the reception so I could enjoy a table for two with my "Plus One" somewhere else. Again, I thought I was doing the bride a favor by letting her know my plans.

    Apparently that's not so. My "Plus One" is potentially making me a "Minus Two." Call me crazy, but I'm not really sure where the problem is. The most important part of the day, to me, is the part where the vows are made and the couple actually gets married with their friends and family there to witness it.

    In any case, I will still be in Ohio July 30th - August 2nd...with or without my "Plus One."

    In my quest for content...

    I started looking a flight prices for my trip to Ohio. I'm not too pumped about flying with Mia. She's a good little girl, but she's had ear problems and I don't want her to freak out or anything. Flights right now are looking to be around $314 for the both of us to fly into Cleveland on July 29th and out of Cleveland on August 2nd. If I DRIVE, I can leave early July 30th and be in Columbus that afternoon. I figure I'll stay with Meghan and Brian Friday night, and Saturday night, then drive up to Cleveland (someone plan a family picnic for August 1st) on Sunday...then I can leave from Cleveland on Monday morning. Flying would be nice because I wouldn't have to drive 9 hours with a toddler. Driving would be nice because I wouldn't have to rely on my friends/family members for transportation. I hate not having a car at my disposal. Especially with a kid, ya know? So here's the poll. You vote, and those of you with kids, feel free to comment with your own travel horror stories/anecdotes.

    Once in awhile, I get kind of burned out on the whole posting thing. It usually happens when there's not a whole lot going on...like now. My classes are boring, my classmates are entertaining at best. My boyfriend is great, but often on the ship. Mia is cute...that will never change.

    One word.

    We were doing riddles and mind puzzles in psychology today. After the first puzzle, our teacher wrote two words on the board: new door. He asked us to scrambled up the letters to make one word. So I wrote on my paper: one word. And I was right. And I was the only one that got it. He asked me to write it on the board and everyone was annoyed that "one word" was actually two words. One lady said, "Well if you had told us it was a riddle to begin with, more of us might have gotten that."

    Right. Because if you're not smart enough to realize that you were doing riddles the whole time, you'd definitely be able to figure it out having been TOLD what you were doing.

    A couple things.

    First, I would like to confirm that I have received the Christmas gifts from the family in Ohio. Mia opened them all by herself. Thank you notes to follow. Soon. I promise. Also, there is a story about some tennis shoes I need to hear, so could someone please e-mail Dan and Debbie's phone number? Please and thanks.

    Second, the new site. Love it? I do. Hopefully eg approves. :) I have to extend a thank you to Elisabeth at blogfrocks for the Barter-Ware. Good times. Great templates. I realize I have to change the colors of the shoutbox now, I'll tackle that monster tomorrow. I have school in the morning.

    Finally, could my weekend be any MORE insane? On Friday night, Sheila was going to take Mia and keep her over night. Rus and I had tickets to see Allyn Ball at the Comedy Zone. Funny guy. But alas, her house was broken into Thursday night and was making the necessary repairs and doing the cleaning thing. So, Nicole ended up babysitting. On the way home, we got a flat tire. We stopped at a 7-11 about a mile from Hooters and called up there to see if we could get a ride from someone just getting off work (this happened around the same time the floor is cut on a Friday night). One of the girls says, "SURE." So we wait. And we wait. For 30 minutes we watched every car pull in and NOT be this girl. So I called back up there and she's STILL there. So we end up getting a ride with a fellow Navy guy (Rus is in the Navy). We hung out with Nicole and called it a night. Crazy times. Amber and I got into trouble last night with our boys for leaving them to go to Shakespeare's. Sorry guys.

    Psychology.

    For once, I would like to have a teacher that didn't try so hard to be diplomatic. When someone raises her hand and says something totally asinine, I want my teacher to say, "HEY! You're a bloody idiot!!" Instead of saying, "Yeah, I can see that, you're probably right...ok," my teacher should exclaim, "NO!! You're dumb! I can't believe you said that! Have you been paying attention? Can you read?!"

    I'm kind of sick of going to a school that accepts anyone that can afford tuition or qualifies for financial aid. There needs to be a little bit more of a selection process. I didn't intend to pay for a school chock FULL of idiots so I could be distracted by their complete and utter stupidity. I'm used to having things explained once at a normal rate. I don't like lectures being interrupted by stupid questions and teachers taking the time to speak slower for people that are never going to get it.

    Back to school.

    Medical Office Procedures and Psychology. MOP is alright. Our teacher goes a little fast...but it's a fast paced course. She'll just take some getting used to. Psychology will be a class I enjoy...for the most part. You always have those couple people that want to tell stories so your teacher can solve all their mental problems and diagnose their friends. Unfortunately for those people, but fortunately for me...it's only a 2.5 hour class and that's hardly enough time to even scratch the surface on these people.

    StellAAAAAAAAAAA!

    I'm not particularly fond of the name Annie for a dog...so we're going to be attempting a switcharoo. Meghan says to call her Annie-Stella for awhile and then drop the Annie...see if it works. Good idea, I think.

    Rus didn't think so. He asked me, "How would you like it if your parents called you something for awhile and then changed it?"

    To which I replied, "Actually they did that, and I didn't mind."

    He said nothing. I smiled.

    I did the /04 on the first try!! All that practice paid off. It seems like the New Year is starting off pretty okay for me. Rus and I got back together last night...there might really be something to that apple thing.

    We'll also be welcoming a new addition to our family!! No my loves, not a baby :) My Uncle Robert is making the drive to Virginia Beach tomorrow (from Maryland) to deliver Annie. Annie is a 3 year old Wheaten Terrier that needs a loving home. And Mia needs a "goggy." So problems solved. Good stuff. Pictures to follow...

    Mia and I went to the grocery store so I could pick up a few things, including an apple and some cabbage. We passed a woman on the juice aisle; she was carrying a rather large brown cow print purse.

    Mia looked at the woman curiously and then pointed, "Goggy. Oof oof."
