    Definitely better late than never.

    I got my family calendar in the mail the other day (thank you Aunt Maureen & Uncle Doug). I showed it to Rus and after all the "This is my Uncle...and this is my Aunt...and this my cousin...and this is his baby...and these babies belong to..." he said, "I want to go to Ohio with you, I want to meet your family." How cute! Unfortunately, he'll be out to sea during both of my prospective July treks. BUT, it's likely that he'll be back in time for 1 or 2 day excursion to the Outer Banks. Good times. By the way, Family: I need to know exactly what city y'alls vacation house is in so I can make reservations at a nearby Ramada (Dianna...I'll need your assistance with that). Thank you all, in advance for your cooperation. :)

    Guestbook.

    I edited my guestbook to match the colors of the "new" layout...as opposed to the Unzipped one. So if you haven't signed it yet, feel free :)

    What are the odds?

    Shawn and I are going to court on March 2nd. I thought it was a LITTLE odd that I filed the motions in Nov/Dec and NEITHER of us had been served with a summons yet. So I called the court and they directed me to call the VA Beach sheriff's dept about my summons and the Norfolk sheriff's dept about Shawn's.

    SO. I started with VA Beach and they said they rec'd the summons from the court in Dec and had NO IDEA why I hadn't been served yet. Then I called Norfolk. Apparently they've TRIED to serve Shawn at work several times but he hasn't been there and hasn't responded to the "sorry we missed you...we're trying to summons you" notes.

    My summons was rubberbanded to my door today. Yummy.

    Road Rage.

    I was driving home from school today and had to merge onto 264E. The woman that got on the ramp behind me tried to speed around me and prevent me from merging.

    "Sorry lady, I may be driving my mom's minivan, but I won't be bullied."

    So I sped up and got in front of her anyway (and I used my turn signal). Let's keep in mind that she got on the highway BEHIND me and I was driving 8 mph OVER the speed limit as it was...she was just being a jerk. So. Not wanting to hold her up, because she was obviously in such a hurry, I got into the next lane.

    As she drove past me, I glanced over expecting to get the finger. Instead, she just looked directly at me with a disgusted face and mouthed "stupid b**ch" as I just smiled my patronizing smile and stuck my tongue out. She seemed just a little more angry than she was originally and that made my day.

    Keep on truckin'.

    Dear Mr. Ghosn:

    I am the owner of a 1995 Nissan Altima GXE (VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX).

    In Virginia, it is mandatory that vehicles pass an extensive state inspection annually. My mechanic informed me today that I need a new passenger side airbag.

    The problem is, a new airbag is by no means an inexpensive part. I am a 22-year-old single mom. I go to school full-time, I wait tables on the weekends just to make ends meet (they rarely do anyway) and I really can not afford an $850 airbag, much less the $745 it would cost me to replace it with a used one (if one that worked could actually be found).

    I am aware of the recall issued on 1994-1995 Altimas because of problems with the airbags. Unfortunately, my car does not qualify to be recalled having been manufactured 3 months after the cutoff date.

    I called 1-800-NISSAN-1 and was issued a file number (XXXXXXX) and was told by Matt (xXXXX) that “[he’s] sorry but there is nothing [he] can do.

    Mr. Ghosn, without a new airbag, I will not legally be able to operate my car.

    I used to own a Honda and am aware of their exceptional warranty on their safety features. Knowing the competition between Honda and Nissan, I would have thought that Nissan would step up to ensure the safety of their consumers.

    In the beginning...

    Those of you that have been with hootress.blogspot since day one know that it hasn't always been squeaky clean...and admittedly, it still isn't. Someone did me a great service once by suggesting I not air EVERYTHING on the site and I took that suggestion and have made my site what it is today.

    And to be honest, that suggestion hasn't just changed the way I blog. I keep a lot more of my personal life to myself even in my circle of friends. Certain friends hear a little, certain friends hear a lot...no one knows EVERYTHING.

    It takes some time to know who your friends are and what screens you need to put in place where confidences are concerned.

    A peson that tells her own business might not be is not the best person to trust with yours.

    A person that "accidentally" makes too many comments about her own life so people will ask questions and make assumptions shouldn't be the person you confide in about love, sex, or finances.

    Happy (Belated) Valentine's Day.

    What a weekend.

    Friday:: I planned on getting Mia to bed early and having some "me" time, but when I laid down with her at 8:30...I didn't wake up until 1am. Goodtimes. I went back to bed and had the worst nightmare. OVER AND OVER AGAIN. I would wake up and go back to bed hoping to start a new dream but the nightmare would pick up right where it had left off. Finally at 6:30 Saturday morning, I text messaged Rus and told him I was having nightmares. I fell right back asleep and dreamed of something completely different. I think the fact that I had acknowledged "out loud" in text that it really was just a nightmare, that made it go away. So...that brings me to Saturday.

    Saturday:: Sheila picked Mia up around 9 and I went to work. I was actually astounded at how many couples were making Hooters their lunch choice on Valentine's Day. I know we like to call ourselves a family restaurant, but come on. I thought maybe it was the girl's idea to go to Hooters for lunch and the guy was doing the dinner thing later. I'm hoping. Rus came up around noon or 1 and brought me a beautiful bouquet of red roses and the cutest teddy bear. I got off work around 5 and rushed home to get ready for dinner. I got showered, got dressed and went to his house where we exchanged cards and he gave me my present: a day at a spa including a 1 hour massage and aromatherapy and stuff. Then we went to Club Soda for dinner. I had the Veal Bolognese (?sp?) and Rus had the New York Strip Steak. They were both VERY VERY tasty. THEN the chef came out (my friend Elizabeth's boyfriend) and greeted us and sent us a dessert sampler (on him!!). It had truffles, chocolate ganache, butter pecan ice cream, coconut sorbet and raspberry garnish. YUMMY. We met up with Gibbs and Liz and Connors and went to Empire...then to Time. I hate Time. It's all techno-y. Yuck. Anyway, we called it a night around 12:30.

    Sunday:: Work again...dinner (Chinese) at home with Mia, Rus and Mom. Sex and the City.

    Side project.

    I have a new little side project I've started. I plan to do a lot more with it, but check it out at OutADeadBeat.blogspot.com. For those of you that have a deadbeat baby's daddy like me, feel free to send a "mugshot" to outadeadbeat@hotmail.com.

    Eventually, I'd like to include helpful links for single mom's such as myself :) but that requires a bit more research....and I have to go feed my grandparent's bulldogs. Yummy.

    I got called out. We were picking drugs out of a lunchbox (drug names on pieces of paper for our pharmacology project) and I got "Zagam." It's an antibacterial drug...not very exciting. I've never heard of it before. I was HOPING for some kind of proton pump inhibitor/antisecretory like Prevacid or Nexium. But I got Zagam. I wasn't SERIOUSLY bitching about it, but I was giving Mr. C a hard time, begging to pick again.

    He said, "No. And I better not read about this on hootress.com."

    And he called me out. Just like that.

    I said, "Uh...shut up."

    Nicole said, "Shhhh."

    Jory said, "That isn't really your web address, is it?"

    I said, "Let's just drop this." and told Mr. C he WOULD be reading about the "callout" on-line.

    I knew he had the site address (thanks, Nicole) and we've discussed some of my posts at school (the PlusOne post...and he TOTALLY agrees with me) within an acceptable audience (i.e. not in front of people I would ever write about).

    We'll see where my hits come from now. No more "I can't believe how dumb this chick is" stories until I know the coast is clear.

    Atkins 2004.

    No, I'm not lobbying for a new Democratic candidate, although a new one WOULD be nice.

    I, ONCE AGAIN, am beginning the Atkins diet. I tried "Atkins-ing" this time last year and did pretty well...for a few weeks. I passed the Induction phase and went buck-wild when I was supposed to be gradually introducing a couple more grams of carbs each week. I lost about 8 lbs. the first time and this time I'm hoping for about 3 times that. Of couse, I won't reveal my weight to you all right NOW :) but I'll keep you posted on my weight loss and stuff like that. Good times.

    Any Atkins recipes that actually TASTE GOOD can be forwarded to the email address on the right.
